Anjanette Comer, 1939 – 2026

Actress Anjanette Comer, 86, died on May 28. The movie and TV actress was active from the 1960s through the ’80s, though she continued to work off and on into this century. She had good roles in the films Quick, Before It Melts, The Loved One, The Appaloosa, Guns for San Sebastian, Rabbit Run, The Fire Chasers, Night of 1000 Cats—basically, good roles in not-so-good films. She was ubiquitous on TV, guesting on My Three Sons, The Donna Reed Show, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Mod Squad, Columbo, Mannix, Baretta, Hotel, and others. Comer explained her waning career to writer Walter Scott: “My career didn't mean that much to me. I dropped out because my drive and ambition were gone. I hated my career and walked away from it. You see, I didn't build my career slowly like most successful actresses do. After a couple of TV appearances I became an instant movie star. I didn't know how to handle it all emotionally. Once in a while, when I needed money, I'd call [my agent]  and he would get me a job that paid very well. Then I'd quit until I needed money again. I did a lot of traveling in Europe and the South Pacific.” She was married to writer Robert Klane and actor Walter Keonig.
