Welsh pop star Bonnie Tyler, 75, died on July 8; she had been hospitalized since May with a perforated intestine and a subsequent heart attack. Tyler had huge hits with "Total Eclipse of the Heart,” "Holding Out for a Hero,” and "It's a Heartache” in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. With her glam looks and raspy belt voice, she was signed by RCA in 1976, and never stopped—her white-hot fame faded by the 1990s, but she continued to tour worldwide and record successfully till the end. Tyler and her husband, real-estate developer and Olympic judo competitor Robert Sullivan, did very well for themselves, owning numerous properties, running stables and horse-boarding services, and contributing to many charities. Last year, Tyler told interviewer Ian Wade, “My audience are right across the board age-wise and I’ve been in the business 50 years. Fifty years! I just fucking love it! I love playing 'Total Eclipse of the Heart,' it’s my calling card.”
