James Sloyan, 1940 – 2026

Character actor James Sloyan, 85, died on July 22. Sloyan—a Vietnam vet—appeared on Broadway in Indians (1969-70), and in such films as The Sting, Xanadu, and The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight. He was involved in two fraught TV projects, The Disappearance of Aimee (Dunaway/Davis feuds!) and Oh Madeline (Madeline Kahn’s short-lived sitcom). He was also seen in such shows as Kojak, Hawaii Five-O, Wonder Woman, Lou Grant, CHiPs, Falcon Crest, Ryan’s Hope, Moonlighting, The Love Boat, Highway to Heaven, Quantum Leap, and the Star Trek series The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. He is survived by his wife, actress Deirdre Lenihan, and their children, Daniel, a musician, and Samantha, an actress.
