TV composer Mark Snow, 78, died on July 4. He’s best-known for his two Chris Carter shows, The X-Files and Millennium, and also composed theme or background music for The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, Starsky and Hutch, Family, Dynasty, T.J. Hooker, The Love Boat, Hart to Hart, Cagney & Lacey, Falcon Crest, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, and countless TV movies, including White Hot: The Mysterious Murder of Thelma Todd (for corn sake, she wasn’t murdered!). A Juilliard grad, Snow early in his career formed the rock band Emil and the Detectives (later called New York Rock & Roll Ensemble). Snow recalled to Fifteen Questions “The experience of having producers and directors over to my studio, and having them say, ‘I don't know anything about music, but . . .’ Most of the comments that followed were purely about drama and emotion. They weren't interested in f-sharps or b-flats. They made suggestions that seemed wrong to me, but turned out to be pretty good.”
