Character actor Alfie Wise, 82, died on July 22. Wise made his TV debut in 1972, and over the next 30 years was seen in The Sandy Duncan Show (remember when she was The Next Big Thing?), Mary Hartman Mary Hartman, The Jeffersons, and The Fall Guy. A pal of Burt Reynolds (they both invested in Florida real estate), Wise joined him in the boisterous fun of The Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit, The Longest Yard, Stroker Ace, and other films, as well as Reynolds’s TV series B.L. Stryker and Evening Shade. When not acting, Wise paid the rent by working at Donohue Real Estate. “His films were like an ongoing block party,” Wise said of working with Burt Reynolds. “I think the audience caught on to that. You always knew you were going to have a great time with a Burt Reynolds movie.”
