Actor Geoffrey Deuel, who played Dave Campbell in The Young and the Restless, died of COPD on Dec. 22. He was 81. The younger brother of actor Peter Deuel (who committed suicide in 1971), Geoffrey had a busy TV career, playing mostly small or supporting roles, stretching from the late ’60s through the ’80s. He turned up in such shows as Occasional Wife, The Monkees, The Invaders, The Flying Nun, Medical Center, The FBI, Ironside, and Mannix, before retiring from acting to teach theater, social studies, math, and science. Deuel told interviewer Dottie Coffman, “Take things you’re doing seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously. If you take yourself too seriously, you won’t be open to new things, things you might have the opportunity to get into. You have to be able to move on to the next hole, move up the chessboard.”
