Top 40 disc jockey J.J. Jeffrey, 84, died on Oct. 10. Jeffrey’s career began on radio in his native Maine, but he found a home in Boston on WRKO, spinning the platters during afternoon drive time. His boisterous persona (“This is J.J. Jeffrey, whippin’ my great, Greek-god-like body into a frenzy for ya”) was perfect for ‘60s pop music. He eventually moved on to WFIL in Philadelphia and WLS in Chicago. In 1975, he and Bob Fuller began buying radio stations, eventually selling their company for $63 million.
