Japanese singer Kōji Tatewaki, who performed as Luz, died of as-yet unknown causes on Aug. 19. He was 32. Born in Fukui Prefecture to mixed-race parents (Japanese, American, German, and Filipino), Luz started his career in 2010, via video sharing (another thing that makes me feel old—in my day, we had to try and get into Mr. Ziegfeld’s office to get noticed!). He had been touring and recording ever since, his concerts regularly drawing as many as 20,000 fans. He was dropped from his record label last year after being convicted of drug possession (his prison sentence was dropped). “I sincerely apologize to the fans who support me,” Luz posted at that time. “Thank you for your understanding of my apology and determination. I truly, truly, truly, truly, and truly express my sincere apologies and heartfelt thanks."

Luz sings “Rose,” which he also wrote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRUb-w-JP6I&list=RDzRUb-w-JP6I&start_radio=1
