British actor and singer Mike Berry, 82, died on April 11. The brother of drag performer Bette Bourne, Berry became a minor pop star in the ’60s, with such recordings as “Don't You Think It's Time,” "Tribute to Buddy Holly,” and "Drift Away.” His success continued through the ‘90s ("The Sunshine of Your Smile,” "Everyone's a Wally," "This Is the Kiss”). Berry was also a popular light actor, most notably as Young Mr. Spooner in Are You Being Served? (replacing Trevor Bannister's Mr. Lucas in 1981). He also played Mr. Peters in the Worzel Gummidge series, and appeared in Knees Up, Spin Off, The Bill, The Parkies, and Julie and the Cadillacs. Of Served, Berry said, “"I loved working with John [Inman], Mollie [Sugden] and the rest of the cast. They were so good to me and really welcomed me into the cast. It was flattering because Wendy Richard told me, 'It's only because we know you can do it.' When people got into the cast who weren't really the right ones or couldn't to it - either act terribly well or see the humor - they would get the cold shoulder, so, I was very lucky that it worked for me and I fitted the part."
