Actor Rick Hurst, 79, died on June 26. He was best known as Deputy Cletus Hogg on The Dukes of Hazzard. The native Texan graduated from Tulane and Temple Universities, and by the early ’70s was appearing on Sanford & Son, The Bob Newhart Show, The Doris Day Show, Kung Fu, Happy Days, The Six Million Dollar Man, and CHiPs, till cast in Hazzard in 1979. He embraced his Hogg fame, appearing in two follow-up TV-movies and showing up at fan conventions. Hurst later costarred with Bea Arthur in the flop Amanda’s, and kept on working through 2016, in such shows and movies as Earth Girls and Easy, Murder She Wrote, Steel Magnolias, The Wonder Years, Evening Shade, and Melrose Place. One of his sons is actor Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy).
