British TV actor Tony Peers (Emmerdale, Coronation Street), 78, died on July 24. In addition to his stage work and a handful of movies (Funny Bones, L.A. with a Map), he was best known for his TV work. Peers played various characters in Emmerdale and Coronation Street, also turning up in All Creatures Great and Small (the 1990 version), Moving Story, Cracker, The Grand, and Heartbeat, among others. He was also a mainstay of the Scarborough Spa, a gorgeous 1880 theater (sorry, “theatre!”), as a performer, director, and producer of the Spa summer shows and Christmas pantomimes. Peers recalled his parents coming to see one of his first shows: “My mum cried all the way home from Minehead to Liverpool. She said to my father, ‘He’ll never make a living doing this; he’s a big, daft lad and he’s got no talent.’”
